Joanne Smith

Design Director and Programming Lead

Joanne Smith is a Partner and business manager of the firm with over 14 years’ experience in project design and management. She has significant experience in the master planning, design, and renovation of administration and production facilities, protective services, commercial, recreation, arts and cultural, residential, and institutional building projects; as well as development of large-scale energy sector administration facilities.

As design director, Joanne coordinates design team activities, focusing her efforts on spatial program development, schematic and concept design, presentation requirements, and design development. Joanne approaches each project with careful quality control and effective project delivery. Her active involvement as primary liaison with our clients ranges from preliminary studies for funding purposes, to complete re-builds and new builds through each contract and documentation phase.

Working closely with her fellow Partners, her methodology includes thorough review of design options, operations, budgets, and schedules that take into account proper phasing to minimize operational disruption during construction.

Joanne Smith holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba. She is a LEED® Accredited Professional with the Canada Green Building Council, and a registered member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC), the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), the Northwest Territories Association of Architects (NWTAA), the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (MRAIC), and the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI), among other distinguished architectural organizations in Canada and around the world.

Tim Sahuri
Principal, Architect AAA, AIBC, SAA, MRAIC, LEED^® AP

Principal-in-Charge

As Principal and creative authority of the firm, Tim Sahuri is a visionary leader who is known to bring out the best in people. He has over 25 years’ experience in award-winning architectural design, project management, document coordination, and contract administration. He has worked as design and project architect for numerous large-scale facilities including recreation, healthcare, education, protective services, commercial, hospitality, resort, cultural, residential, and institutional building projects since the firm was established 14 years ago.

Tim leads all competition proposals, providing design quality control and working drawing review. He is aggressively committed to deadlines and budget, and ensures that design intent is consistently translated through to contract documents, prioritizing inclusive integration of all involved stakeholders. His design skills influence a thematic harmony that enhances the character of each project and its surroundings. His leadership, strategic planning, and design skills are balanced with a sensitivity and respect for operational building design requirements and sustainability.

Possessing a collaborative communication style, he values future strides in innovation and provides clear leadership and inclusive mentoring to his employees. This guidance is balanced with a sensitivity and respect for operational building design requirements and sustainability.

Tim has a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Manitoba. As a committed adopter of sustainable design early in his career, he was among the first in the industry to become a LEED® Accredited Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council and Canada Green Building Council. He is also a registered member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC), the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), the Saskatchewan Association of Architects (SAA), and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (MRAIC), among other prestigious architectural organizations in Canada and the U.S.

Allan Law
Partner, Technical Team Director CET, LEED^® AP

Project Manager and Project Team Lead

As a Partner in the firm, Allan Law leads the production team as project manager and team director. With over 20 years’ experience, he has been involved in numerous successfully completed complex projects, including large-scale oil sands facilities, commercial/industrial, healthcare, education facilities, protective services, recreational, and multi-unit housing projects.

He oversees project teams from the beginning of design through to completion of construction and post-construction work, including building commissioning. Allan is an anchor to the firm, providing solid project coordination that continually ensures schedule, staff and resource allocation, budget, code compliance, contract conditions, and general program are systematically met and maintained. His background as a senior drafting technologist in charge of contract document production has been an asset to the firm in each project delivery.

Allan graduated with an Architectural Technology Diploma from N.A.I.T. He is a LEED® Accredited Professional with the Canada Green Building Council, and is an active member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC). He is also a registered member of the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI).

SAHURI + Partners Architecture Inc. is a professional, creative, performance-oriented architecture and interior design firm with offices in Calgary, Alberta and Kelowna, British Columbia.

SAHURI + Partners is the successor firm of a 43-year collective firm history and has been established as an Alberta Corporation since 2001.
